I would LOVE to join WHUP as a DJ.
I graduated in 2010, with a degree in English and an Emphasis on Creative Writing. I am a Millennial with experience in broadcasting. I am local to Hillsborough.
I already have two fully-formed ideas for shows.
The first one:
From 2007-2008, the television show Twisted Echoes aired Friday nights on public access channel The Peoples Channel, Channel 8. Then, from 2008-2009, it continued Monday nights as a live Internet-streamed radio show from my alma mater.
Twisted Echoes 2015, like its predecessor, will be a funkadelic mix of the coolest songs from the past 50 years -- particularly those featured on indie labels and/or that were and are vastly under-appreciated in their time. Each show would feature 10 songs, with a 2-3 minute commentary preceding the song itself. Video and audio of past shows are available upon request. Having primarily downloaded music from the Internet, I now also have an inherited collection of 200+ records and a means to convert them to mp3.
The second one:
On January 21st, 2013, when Obama was re-inaugurated into his second term, I saw Richard Blanco read his poem "One Today." That's when I decided to start the blog, "Associated Poetry." I take the Associated from Associated Press, and my inspiration from Jon Stewart et al (I go by "the female Jon Stewart" because it gives me confidence). Three times weekly, I provide humorous, poetic takes on the news (primarily American).
To be more news-like, each poem would be read with the date first. WHUP could keep all three poems together (approximately a 5-minute show) or break them apart and spread them throughout the schedule. The poems address specific events but the themes and the politicians involved will be relevant for years to come. I would not offer commentary in addition to the poem.
The blog is associatedpoetry.com and the Facebook page is facebook.com/AssociatedPoetry.
